Qualifications:Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, natural resources, agronomy or related field of study. - Must have been a US Forest Service certified silviculturist in the past 15 years. Must be ATV /UTV certified. Must be able to operate a 4-wheel drive truck.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Power Point, ARCVIEW (GIS), Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS), Field Sampled Vegetation (FSVEG), Forest Service Activity Tracking System (FACTS)
Duties:Provides mentoring and coaching to foresters and silviculturist trainees to ensure the practical application of silvicultural science, laws, regulations, and policy to forest vegetation management activities, supports forest trust fund management, and supports forest activity tracking. - Mentors forester and silviculturist trainees working towards their silviculturist certification, (current or future NASP students) for stand selection and diagnosis, data collection and analysis, reforestation activities, and prescription development. 30%
- Reviews silvicultural prescriptions to ensure that plans, treatment, and harvesting techniques are compatible with long-range land management plans and desired future conditions. 20%
- Provides support for developing marking guides for timber sales. 20%
- Provides support for trust fund management including the preparation of trust fund plans, data entry, and tracking. 20%
- Provides support for forest activity tracking (FACTS). 10%
Other:- Travel Requirements: To and from duty location, alternate duty location, and to district offices and/or project areas throughout the Black Hills National Forest.
