Duties:

This position primarily serves as a Minerals Hydrologist under the Minerals Program but also serves as a Forest Hydrologist under the Natural Resources Program as the minerals program if Program of Work allows.

  • The hydrologist/hydrogeologist must be able to convey technically complex information effectively and credibly to the inter-disciplinary team, Forest management, proponents and public stakeholders concerning controversial minerals projects.   20%
  • Prepares water resource studies, inventories, and monitoring assessment reports. Prepares watershed restoration plans, NEPA analyses, floodplain, riparian and wetland monitoring assessments. Supports the Forest watershed program with water right and uses, soils and vegetation management prescriptions   20%
  • Provides expertise in groundwater and surface water issues unique to oxide/sulfide metals mining.   20%
  • It is desired that the mining hydrologist have a solid knowledge of exploration drilling, underground and open-pit mine design, mine dewatering, milling and SX/EW beneficiation processes, mine and watershed water balances, watershed and groundwater modeling including conceptual, analytical, numeric, stochastic models, geochemistry, acid rock drainage prediction, contaminant fate and transport modeling.   20%
  • Provides location and construction recommendations for groundwater supply wells, determines 100-year floodplains for recreations and infrastructure projects. Provides BMP recommendations and monitoring reports for Clean Water Act compliance.   20%
