NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP). Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee. PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions. Qualifications:Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in project crew environment operating heavy equipment OR HS/GED Degree Duties:The primary purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction heavy equipment to assist Kalaupapa National Historical Park with cargo, utility, road, and repair needs. - Driving and operating a digger derrick truck to transport, remove, and install utility poles and use the machine's boom to position utility workers for electrical line installation and repair. 40%
- Operating 7.5 ton forklift to unload and load cargo from the park's annual barge service. 20%
- Use backhoe loader to excavate and trench for various utilities and road repair projects. 20%
- Operate Bomag-style roller for compacting aggregate road surfacing material. 10%
- Perform miscellaneous tasks associated with the trade of commercial driver / heavy equipment operator. 5%
- Comply with archeological monitoring requirements for most projects involving excavation 5%
Other:- Required Certifications: Attendance at heavy equipment operator safety training and an outstanding safety record with commitment to pre-trip inspection and maintenance for all equipment.
- Required Safety Gear: Enrollee is required to wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with the job such as coveralls, gloves, hard hat, steel-toed shoes and safety goggles/glasses. PPE will be provided at no cost and training will be provided for it.
- Physical requirements: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 4 hours). Must be able to walk up to ¼ mile to project site locations at high elevations. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Enrollee will be working outside operating heavy equipment in many weather conditions.
