Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument preserves the northern-most natural habitat of the Organ Pipe Cactus, as well as amazing examples of desert plants, animals, geology, and human history. This 330,000 acre monument was set aside in 1937 to preserve a pristine example of Sonoran Desert.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) in Civil Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management

  • Comprehensive, intensive, practical knowledge of, and skill in applying a wide range of technical engineering and construction control concepts, principles, practices, and precedents in order to perform work involving the planning, execution, monitoring, and control of construction, repair, rehabilitation, and accessibility projects within the National Park Service. Ability to apply knowledge to provide comprehensive advisory and technical services on substantive projects.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Duties:

This position serves as a Construction Control Representative at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The primary purpose of this position is to perform work involving the management and control of a variety of substantive and complex construction and repair/rehabilitaton projects. The incumbent represents the NPS and works within a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, conservators, preservation specialists, historians, environmental specialists, natural resource specialists, and technical support personnel to plan, execute, monitor, and track the completion of park projects.

  • Project Execution- This role provides on-site inspection and coordination of construction and engineering work to ensure projects are carried out according to plans, specifications, and accepted practices. It oversees and monitors construction progress, working closely with project inspectors and technical representatives to identify issues at any stage and implement corrective measures in collaboration with designers, engineers, and contract administrators.   60%
  • Project Tracking- This role conducts ongoing analysis to verify that projects remain on schedule and within projected costs, preparing and tracking cost reports related to contract modifications and change orders to identify deficiencies and initiate corrective actions when needed. It provides guidance to project supervisors and technical representatives to ensure contractors meet their obligations in accordance with contract requirements, including scheduling, workmanship, and material standards. The position monitors contract costs, recommends budget adjustments or reprogramming when appropriate, and ensures that all changes to drawings and specifications are accurately recorded for inclusion in final ?as-built? documents.   25%
  • Project Planning- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role involves reviewing complex project scopes, designs, and estimates; participating in design conferences and studies; ensuring plans meet construction standards, codes, and site conditions; and identifying practical solutions to anticipated challenges. The position also attends key pre-construction meetings, coordinates construction activities with contractors and external agencies, and provides technical support for accessibility initiatives and the treatment of historic structures.   10%
  • Other - Operates park vehicle for travel needed to accomplish assigned tasks. Perform administrative duties related to time keeping. Maintain National Park Service property, such as computers, cameras, printers and other hardware or software needed for the position. Perform work in Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency.   5%

  • Health and Safety Considerations: Some hazards may be encountered, typical of any construction project while others maybe typical to historic structures and landscapes that have been poorly maintained.

  • Physical requirements: A significant portion of the work takes place in the outside environment, typical of the desert southwest, with exposure to extreme heat, wind, dry and dusty conditions, as well as monsoonal rains and mild winter cold. Venemous repltiles and critters that sting and bite and natural vegetation that stick and poke. The sedentary portion of the work is performed in an office setting.
