Duties:The biologist serves as a senior-level biologist for environmental compliance and monitoring for the Albuquerque Area Office (AAO) for project commitments related to the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), and other pertinent acts and statutes in support of the LSARI river realignment project. - Evaluates the effectiveness of Reclamation projects, including mitigation and/or restoration, based on the results of monitoring. Assists in determining impacts of projects on birds, fish, and other wildlife resources, and waters of the U.S., wetlands, and other special aquatic sites. Recognizes study needs, and conducts bird, fish, and other wildlife related studies. Conducts wetland delineations and wetland mitigation planning. Provides technical reviews of environmental projects and related compliance activities. Ensures compliance with project requirements and mitigation, and to ensure that objectives are met, work is concluded on schedule, and findings are presented as required. 34%
- Prepares permits, technical reports and other documents summarizing status of monitoring, mitigation, environmental compliance, adaptive management activities, and results of investigations. Prepares biology portions of more broad-based Reclamation and Interior reports. Prepares and/or reviews applicable compliance reports and documentation. Maintains up-to-date records of re-vegetation, restoration and other mitigation accomplishments. Completes documents such as mitigation plans, monitoring plans, annual mitigation progress reports, and adaptive management reports. Completes environmental compliance documentation as needed under ESA, CW A, NEPA, and FWCA. Provides biological services to support staff biologists in the Environment and Lands Division to accomplish environmental compliance and monitoring in support of AAO activities for the LSARI Project. 33%
- Plans, implements, oversees, tracks and evaluates environmental compliance, monitoring, mitigation, and adaptive management implementation to support AAO activities, including projects funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and associated with requirements and recommendations of the ESA, CW A, NEPA, MBTA, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (FWCA) and other pertinent acts and statutes, with particular emphasis on working closely with other State and Federal agencies to meet established project milestones. 33%

- Health and Safety Considerations: Training requirements will be satisfied online as required from USBR. Vehicle safety training (drivers safety training) will be completed online. First Aid CPR training required, available online.
- Required Safety Gear: Work around active construction sites will require PPE, Hard hats, Steel Toed Boots or equivalent, Safety vest. Waders and Wading boots and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) for crossing riverine and wetland habitats.
- Physical requirements: Much of the work (66%) is performed in the office where it is mostly sedentary, but some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as papers, books, etc. is required. The job requires intense mental concentration, interpersonal interaction, and long periods of time in meetings. Field work is performed approximately 34% of the time and requires standing, bending, walking, reaching, lifting and other similar activities often in adverse outside conditions. Travel is necessary for field work and to attend meetings, with occasional overnight stays.
